TREAD is a large site-managed organisation attached to the Cardiology Unit, Stellenbosch University and located in Tygerberg Hospital, Parow, South Africa.

Although established primarily as a cardiovascular and lipidology clinical trials unit, our integrated network of multi-specialty physicians has also enabled us to participate in trials involving rheumatology, general medicine, infectious diseases, neurology and endocrinology.

We have a very large database of patients and through innovative recruitment techniques, we are also able to enrol patients from numerous other sources – including academic and government hospitals, day hospitals and local physicians.

In keeping with globally acceptable standards, TREAD adheres strictly to Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (ICH GCP) and South African Guidelines.  Standard Operating Procedures specifically pertaining to pre-determined Phase II-IV studies are followed.

TREAD was established in 1996 by Professors Lesley Burgess and Anton Doubell.
